Her visit with Aisha ended when Zeke and the other O’Rourke detective knocked on the door and dragged her out of the apartment. Almost literally. Zeke had taken hold of her hand and had pulled her back to her apartment, Lexie bobbing behind him like a balloon.

“Do you have any idea what you’ve just done?” Zeke growled. “How could you have exposed yourself to an innocent bystander?”

“Exposed? You make me sound like a pervert.”

“You know what I mean. How did you explain yourself?” Zeke asked as he pointed at her still hovering in the middle of the room.

Lexie crossed her arms. “I didn’t have to because I used my avoidance skills. Also, Aisha was too upset to worry about seeing me hovering outside her window. And what’s with the third degree? I’m a free agent.”

Zeke’s expression turned stern. “Accountable to your Coven.”

“How are they going to find out? Are you going to tell on me?”

“I might just do that. Then again,” Zeke turned to the two orbs hovering behind Lexie.

Lexie peered at them. “What?”

Catherine sighed. “Well, you have broken rule number one. Never expose yourself in public.”

“I thought rule number one was never lose your cat.”

“There are several golden rules and,” Catherine explained, “If memory serves, you broke that one too.”

“I did not lose Luna. She... sauntered off. And, as you can see, she’s fine.”

Mirabelle broke her simmering silence. “What were you thinking?”

“While I’m happy to take responsibility for my actions, I wasn’t thinking clearly and I’m not entirely to blame for that. I’ve been starved and kept locked up for days.”

The Monkey God cleared his throat. “Can we get back to business? We can’t afford to be sidetracked. Throughout the ages, there have been many reported sightings of me. What’s the worst that can happen?”

Luna snickered. “Someone might decide to erect a temple in your name, Lexie. You could be the next deity. The talk of the town. People will flock here to pay homage. We could charge an entrance fee. Wow. This could be the bonanza we’ve been waiting for. We’ll be rich.”

Lexie rolled her eyes. “I’ve been thinking... Earlier, Hanuman thought the dark force might be biding its time and waiting to strike when Aisha is at her happiest.” Lexie shook her head. “I think it might be the complete opposite. The dark multi-headed force is waiting for Aisha’s guard to drop. Give her enough misery and it might weaken her resolve to be happy. If she despairs... Wham! He... It will completely immerse Aisha in darkness and her happiness will dissipate. Forever.”

“And you left her alone?” both Catherine and Mirabelle asked.

“It’s not as if I had a choice, thanks to Zeke.”

Both orbs disappeared.

“For future reference,” Luna said, “You need to acquire some backup platitudes and jokes.”

Moments later, Catherine and Mirabelle reappeared. “She’s fine. Thank goodness. She has some friends visiting and they’re going to watch a movie.”

Hanuman clapped his hands. “Can we now get back to training? Now that you’ve learned to levitate, you have to learn to come back down.
